Looking Back Again in the History of Bodos






Reader's Article: The Bodo is a generic term. It includes the Boro-Kacharis, the Mech-Kacharis and Sonowal-Kachari s etc etc. Bodos are the master race. They have distinctive culture, tradition, language and literature of their own. Tribal’s are the oldest settler in entire NE. Before coming of any other race only tribal’s rule in NE. The great Bodo people are of offspring of the son of Vishnu and Mother Earth. “During the Epic age, they were known as the Kiratas. Slowly, they migrated towards North eastern part of India and settled on the bank of the Bullung buttur River, now known as the Brahmaputra. After migration,the Bodochas to be known as Dimasa meaning thereby the children of big river. Dwi or Di means River, Fisa means Children. In Bodo History Here comes the " DUS MAN " Dabbang entry mane. Remember that tribal’s are the son of soil, NE. No other community was in Northeast then. With the passage of time, Dimasas the children of the river were driven out from the banks of the Bullungbuttur [Brahmaputra] towards Sadiya by Pushyavarman of Varman dynasty in the 4th century. They established their new kingdom on the banks of river Dhansiri. They also built their Capital at Dimapur in 1086 AD. The kacharis ruled for over 450 years from Dimapur. It's not possible to share all the history of BODO in FB.

IN the 13th century, the Ahoms led by SUKAPHA came to Assam and occupied one portion of the Kachari Kingdom. By 1536 AD, the occupied the entire Kachari kingdom. This forced them to flee towards the North Cachar hills from Dimapur. In 1536, the Kacharis came to Maibong and ruled till 1750ADfrom there. From 1750 to 1830, they ruled from Khaspur till the last Kachari king, GOBINDACHANDRA was assassinated in 1830AD.
