Food & Cuisine:
Broccoli has been known in western Asia and the Mediterranean area for over
2000 years. It has become popular recently because of its newly discovered food
value. The edible part of the broccoli is the flower head, which must be eaten
before it flowers.
The plant grows about 2 to 3 feet high. It
does well in any ordinary garden soil that is reasonably moist. It prefers a cool,
moist climate and grows best along the seacoast or lake shores. Broccoli is
used fresh or frozen.
