You don't need diploma in film making nor expensive film making equipment for making film: Critic Company is a proved!

These new generation of teenage filmmakers based in Kaduna in Nigeria is taking Nollywood onto to the next level. But, wait! They are doing all these awesome special effect films just by using a smashed cell phone and a broken microphone stand. Bode Media reached out to them and below is an exclusive interview with them.

Bodo Media: First of all, tell us about the Critic Company.

Critic Company:  We are a group of teenage filmmakers in Kaduna, Nigeria from the ages 19-5 years, consisting of 6 boys and 3 girls.

Bodo Media: From how long you guys have been making this kind of special effects movies. And how did the idea of making special effects movies come up?

Critic Company: We have been making special effects movies since mid-2017 and the idea of making these special effect movies came up 2012 when we got to meet ourselves for the first time and our major topic of discussion was movies we had watched and how they were made. So we decided to create this type of movies in our own way since it wasn't something we could get to see easily over here.

Bodo Media: You guys are battling with power cuts and lack of proper types of equipment? Did you (Guys) ever felt like giving up?

Critic Company: Only in a few occurrences did we feel like giving up, but we'd always come together to speak about it, look at the bright side and get out working.

Bodo Media:  Even if the movies were made in cell phone the quality of the video seems like a pro (What you guys think why the videos are not getting that much views that it deserved despite having a good quality content or what could be the reasons behind it)

Critic Company: Well, we felt our videos didn't get recognized, then because we couldn't promote our work to reach more people.

Bodo Media:   Are you guys planning to collaborate with any a filmmaker from Nigeria or from a foreign land?

Critic Company:  Well, we believe collaboration is key and we are open to collaborate with anybody who is willing to.

Bodo Media:   Please take us through the process (planning/Ideas) of making the movies ‘‘Behind the scenes” (Who does what?)

Critic Company: Well Godwin comes up with the Idea sometimes alone or with Richard and then he informs everyone about the idea, so Ronald who is the props a creator creates any prop we might use for the project, a victor who is our gaffer gathers candles and flashlights we could use to light or some reflective material for outdoor shots. So we go to our set to shoot, Lawson our stunt the coordinator helps with the fight scenes and stunts, then Raymond edits the project, the entire team makes suggestions on the edit and ways to improve it.

Bodo Media:    Any message that you guys want to say to your fans out there?

Critic Company: Well, we'd say do what you love, don't let your situation to determine who you would become. Get up and work, eventually, it'll pay off.
