Virtual classes for Meghalaya students during lockdown

NE NEWS: Amidst the lockdown, two schools in Meghalaya have started online classes to keep the students preoccupied and also to complete the syllabus in time.

One of the schools is Pine Mount which has begun preparation for the online classes. It involves a simple online registration process through which the student’s name, class and contact details are collected.

Once the registration is done, the students or their parents will be provided a login password. After login, each student will be given assignments by their respective class teacher.

The assignments will have to be completed by the students at their homes and submitted to the teachers online for
assessment. The registration process is on but the actual online classes are yet to begin.

Apart from Pine Mount School, Shillong Public School has also initiated e-classes with a similar registration process. Both Shillong Public School and Pine Mount are run by the State Government.

The decision to start online classes was taken since the country is bracing for disruption of the academic session this year due to the corona virus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown, experts said.

The State capital of Meghalaya is an educational hub and there are hundreds of schools run by various organizations and an equal number of hostels and guest houses for students from outside the State.

The State Government has set up two shelter homes here for students from outside the State who have been unable to return home. These shelter homes will provide accommodation and food to the stranded students.
