The current estimate of the
age of the universe is about 13 billion
years. The 60 odd years following Hubble's original findings have seen numerous revisions of the
constant. HST's main purpose was the measurement of the Hubble constant.
The Hubble's constant as
measured by the space telescope was on the high side implying a rather young
universe - also depending on what theoretical mode is accepted.
Scientists say the universe
could be just 8 billion years old if the Hubble constant is precisely 80.
