Throwing light on the Reang Tribe of Tripura

History: Reang or Riang or Bru tribe has become refugees in their own land. They are struggling to survived; When Home Minister visited Manipur. Some of the leaders of the Bru Tribe lamented their sad stories to him. According to the article ‘The lost Bodo Diaspora’ written by Shickna John Wary.He throws light on the development and origin of this tribe. In his article he wrote that Reang tribe language is very similar with that of Bodo tribe,he says that they are also found in Mizoram and Bangladesh besides Tripura. Their language is call Kaubru, having a variant form of Kok-Borok of Tripuris which has a Bodo dialect in it.

Their main occupation is cultivation and they mainly practice Jhum or Huk Cultivation.Bru girls are fond of dancing just as that of Bodo Girls as Bagurumba as received worldwide recognition their dance has too which is call hojagiri folk dance.

Besides being the second most populous tribe of Tripura after the Tripuris.Their language, culture, and tradition have been facing the great threat of extinct could that would be migration following from East Pakistan now Bangladesh. Our Government must protect this aborigine tribe who has been living since time immoral before they go extinct.
