Selfie War: For the Right of Copyright©

Special Coverage: (Photography): Can a Macaque monkey take a selfie like us? This is from where the trouble of copyright© arrived between the photographer and the monkey. In 2011, U.K photographer David Slater visited Indonesia to photograph the endangered group of Macaque monkeys.

One of the black macaque monkeys took David Slater‘s camera and equipment and took a selfie of self. Later when the Wikimedia commons uploaded the photo to their site. By the time, Mr.Slater could say that photo was his copyright© PETA, an organization campaign equal right for animals filed Copyright suits in Court on behalf of monkey (Naruto).

The war never seems to end. On the other side “Wikipedia has argued that it should be in public domain since it has not been taken by the photographer and since there is no provision in the law to provide copyright to an animal”

“It took three days of blood, sweat and tears to get the selfie in which I had to be accepted by the group of monkeys before they would allow me to come close enough to introduce them to my camera equipment,” said Mr. Slater to BBC

According to him, it is male macaque it is female macaque that is seen in the picture. The story of selfie war started when it was posted online in 2014 by Wikimedia Commons.
