' Bodo Prince Rajkhungur Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech felicitated at Gossaigaon '

A grand felicitation ceremony and a mass gathering were recently organized on May 12, Tuesday at Jiyaguri village nearby Saraibil of Gossaigaon Subdivision, Kokrajhar District to welcome and felicitate the present Bodo Prince Rajkhungur Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech. Several cultural groups have performed various colorful Bodo traditional programs to welcome the Bodo Prince. Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech is the 19th Royal descendant of historical Sidli kingdom. Sidli kingdom was established at Chiknajhar by the then Mech(Bodo) King Chikra Mech who is popularly known as Chikna Jhwlao in the Bodo society. The Hinduised society, later on, regarded him as Chikna Narayan Dev.

Mech is the historical name of the present Bodo community. Thousands of years before the Mahabharata era itself most of the Undivided India were ruled by the Mlechcha Kings. Mech is the corrupted version of the term ‘Mlechcha’ which had been clearly mentioned in the Linguistic Survey of India by George Grierson in the year 1903. Till Indian Independence also, various territories of the Northeastern India was ruled by the Mech(Bodo) Kings.

Thousands of people from various areas of the Kokrajhar district had actively participated in this mass gathering and the grand felicitation ceremony of Kumar Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech. Addressing the huge mass gathering, Dev Mech said that the protection of the Tribal Belts and Blocks is the must for the protection of the Bodo community and the existing tribal people of Assam. He also said that the spread of valuable education among the tribal society is must and mandatory for their significant development.

Adding in his statement, Dev Mech said that the Bodo community should remain ever united without any barrier of division due to religious grounds. He said that all the Boro Fisas of Boro Bima(Mother) have to work together unitedly for the development of their society as well as the Bodo people should be more conscious now about their land rights, human rights, and their constitutional safeguard.
This program was organized by the collaboration of various Bodo organizations and social workers of that area. The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Manch (BJSM) and Greater Bodo Religious Union Dularai Gudi Bathou Afad had taken the leading initiative in organizing this program. The 18th Bodo Royal descendant of Sidli, Pradip Narayan Dev Mech, Working President of Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Manch Daorao Dekrebh Narzary, President of Kokrajhar District Dulari Gudi Bathou Afad Raju Narzary, Literature Secretary Bineswar Basumatary along with the leaders of Boro Samaj, ABSU, Boro Harimu Afat and Bodo Sahitya Sabha have attended the same program as the special guests.
