The United Tribal Organization of Assam (UTOA) and the Former Volunteers’ Force jointly organized a press meet at the Kokrajhar Press Club on Saturday, November 1, expressing strong disapproval of the Assam government for failing to fulfill promises made to tribal communities.
The leaders also called on the government to
act swiftly to safeguard the 47 designated Tribal Belts and Blocks across the
state, which they claimed are increasingly threatened by encroachment and
demographic shifts. They urged Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and State
BJP President Dilip Saikia to honor commitments made during the BTC elections
by launching eviction drives to remove illegal settlers from the Bodoland
Territorial Region (BTR).
Voicing frustration over the government’s
approach to tribal concerns, the organizations accused both the state and
central governments of ignoring long-standing demands, such as the
establishment of a separate Bodoland and the creation of a Bodo Regiment in the
Indian Army.
The UTOA and Former Volunteers’ Force
reiterated their resolve to continue advocating for tribal rights, land
security, and cultural heritage, asserting that their movement will go on until
the government takes definitive action.
