Meche (Bodo) language in a edge of extinct



Bodoland G.K: Meche(Bodo) an endangered language in Nepal.The Meche tribe (Bodo people) in Nepal has drastically been reduced to a microscopic minority due to various  to various reason, inter-alias adverse and hostile situation and environment.

 The Meches (Bodos) population was shown only 3763. It is only 0.2% of the total population of Nepal (as per the census of 2001). Some scholars have predicted that unless they are given protection, they will be extinct in the following fifty years or so. In the backdrop of this kind of crucial situation, the Govt of Nepal has already recognised the "Meche tribe" (Bodo people) to as one of the 59 disappearing indigenous nationalities. According to UNESCO proposes six grades for the degree of language endangerment as far as we're concerned, Meche (Bodo) is currently almost in Grade 3. A language is "definitely endangered" (Grade 3) if it is used mostly by the parental generation and up. The language is now in such a situation that younger generations don't speak their mother tongue--Meche (Bodo) but Nepali.
