Beat the Hot Summer days


Summer in India is far from being a pleasant time if one is residing in the plains and have no plans for a retreat to the hills, then let God be your savior. A typical Indian summer day in a city, with all the modern urbanization constructional works going around, can feel like an oven that has been put on a really high pre-heated temperature mark! But taking some small steps can help in a great way to make your summer days pleasant.

There are more  ways to  beat the scorching heat,  besides applying tons of sunscreen lotion and wearing loose-fitting clothes. Here is a few tips that will keep  help you keep you cool like a cucumber.

1. Increase the fluid intake:- To avoid dehydration, besides drinking plenty of water, drink a lot of fluids. The ever popular nimbu pani (lemon water) is an excellent drink to feel refreshed. Then there is tender coconut water, the natural thirst quencher. Tender coconut water contains sugar, fiber and proteins along with vitamins and minerals. Also, instead of drinking carbonated water, drink water that is stored in earthenware pots.This method is popular in rural India so that they can beat the heat with cool drinking water.

2. Have a heavy salad diet: Eat a lot of salads and fresh fruits that naturally contain water, like water melon.In fact water melon contains nearly 92 % water and up to 14 % of vitamin C, along with small amounts of vitamin B and potassium. The adds to the moisture content lost through sweating.

3. Say no to oil : Avoid oil in any form; be it oily food or moisturizers, if you have oily skin, and dust on some loose powder to seal the oil in.

4. Enjoy a spicy meal : Indians by and large loves eating a spicy meal even when it's hot, since the capsaicin in the hot peppers make them perspire and when the sweat evaporates it makes one feel  quite cool. May adversely effect your tummy, but trying out the spice magic isn't a bad option.
