Clothing a new breed of danger to the Environment

Environment NEWS: It is estimated that only 1% of our clothing is ultimately recycled into new garments. The rest ends up in landfills. Every second; the equivalent of one truckload of textiles is burned or dumped in landfills.

The global clothing production has doubled in the past 15 years, with garments on average being worn much less and discarded quicker than ever before. According to Greenpeace, the average person buys  60 percent more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long as 15 years ago.

An estimated $ 500 billion is lost every year due to clothing that’s barely worn and is rarely recycled

Clothes release half a million tones of microfibers into the ocean every year during washing, which is equivalent to more than 50 billion plastic bottles.

26% of the discarded clothing is disposed of simply because we didn’t want it anymore. The purchase and use of clothing contribute about 3 % of global annual co2 emissions.
